Jiangsu Normal University is a regional high-level university in Jiangsu Province, under the supervision of the Ministry of Education and the Jiangsu Provincial Government. Its origin can be traced back to 1952 and renamed JSNU in 2011. The school is located in Xuzhou, one of the oldest cities in China. It has four campuses and covers an area of 136 hectares. It has 22 colleges and has successfully developed many disciplines in philosophy, economics, law, education, literature, history, science, engineering, agriculture, public administration and fine arts.

          The school has more than 18,000 full-time undergraduates, more than 3100 graduate students and 700 international students. There are 600 part-time graduate students, 12,000 adult students and 3,700 second-degree students.

          JSNU is immersed in a unique humanistic environment. With the excellent combination of basic research, literature, science and engineering, and the harmonious development of multi-disciplines, JSNU is in the leading position in teacher education. Its chemistry and engineering ranked in the top 1% of ESI, ranked 54th in the natural index of Chinese mainland universities in 2017, 1220 in the world's best universities, and 123 in the world's best universities in China (American News, 2018). The comprehensive strength of the country has approached the top 100.

           JSNU is one of the first universities authorized by international students. It has established friendly relations with more than 69 universities in the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, Russia and other countries. Students from more than 46 countries and regions came to JSNU for higher education. In 2016, the Ministry of Education approved the establishment of the Joint Engineering College of St. Petersburg Emperor Peter Polytechnic University (JSNU SPBPU Engineering College), which is the first non-independent legal entity in China to run a joint venture between China and foreign countries.
